با نگاه کردن به آسمان شب در سنگاپور ستارهی چندانی به چشم نمیخورد. آلودگی نوری حاصل از روشنایی نورهای مصنوعی در تمام شب، در شهرهای پیشرفته امروزی تاریکی شب را از بین برده است.چرا که پیشرفت سنگاپور در پنجاه سال اخیر به طور گستردهای مشهود است. ویژگی کم نظیر بهرهوری مردم این جزیره کوچک، آن را به یکی از قطبهای کلیدی اقتصاد در آسیا تبدیل کرده.
شهر سنگاپور _پایتخت سنگاپور_ شهریست که هیچگاه نمیخوابد این واقعیت را دریای نوری که از پنجره هواپیما به چشم میتابد گواهی میدهد.
ساختمانهای اداری تا ساعات ابتدایی شب روشن هستند و کار میکنند. تفرجگاهها و پیادهروها نیز برای امنیت مردم از نور کمک میگیرند. آمارها نشان میدهد حدود ۱۱۰ هزار چراغ خیابانی، کوچهها، جادهها و بزرگراهها را روشن میکنند.
مطالعاتی که در سال ۲۰۱۶ توسط موسسه علوم و تکنولوژی آلودگی نوری انجام شد سنگاپور را به عنوان کشوری با بالاترین میزان آلودگی نوری معرفی کرد. در این تحقیق عنوان شده که در هیچ کجای این کشور امکان دیدن راه شیری وجود ندارد.
بزرگترین منابع آلودگینوری را در سنگاپور مراکز تجاری مانند باراندازها، منطقه اقتصادی خلیج مارینا و مرکز حمل و نقل آن یعنی فرودگاه این کشور تشکیل میدهد.
اگرچه منابع نوری یکی از مولفههای ساختار شهری است اما آلودگی نوری حاصل از آن آثار مخربی بر سلامت انسانها و محیطزیست به جا میگذارد. نورهای مصنوعی به عنوان عامل برهم زنندهی ریتم شبانه روزی طبیعی، درانسانها و حیات وحش شناخته شده است.
تحقیقات در این باره هنوز ادامه دارند اما مدل سازیها ارتباط بین عدم توازن هورمونی و بیماریها را در انسان نشان میدهند. از جمله مشکلات بینایی که به علت منابع نوری بیلبوردهای تبلیغاتی و روشنایی معابر ایجاد میشود.
انجمن بین المللی آسمان تاریک (IDA) نام نهادی غیرانتفاعی در آمریکا است که جنبش آسمان تاریک را با هدف حفاظت و حمایت از طبیعت شبانه و میراث آسمان شب در دنیا به راه انداخته است. تمرکز این انجمن بر اصلاح نورپردازی محیط بیرون است و البته توصیههایی مثل خاموش کردن چراغها در زمانی که احتیاجی به آنها نیست و یا استفاده از LEDهایی با دمای رنگ گرمتر نسبت به سفید یخی آن دارد. چرا که نور سفید یخی به مراتب اثرات مخربتری بر انسان و حیاط وحش دارد.
استفاده از سنسور حرکتی یا زمانسنج برای چراغها، هدایت نور به سمت پایین(طوری که باعث کاهش خیرگی شود) و استفاده از چراغهایی با پایههای کوتاه در پیادهرو، همگی راه کارهایی برای بهبود نورپردازی بیرونی هستند.
IDA همچنین برای تاریک نگه داشتن محیط درون خانه در شب توصیه میکند پردهی اتاقها را تا جایی که ممکن است بسته نگه داشته تا هم به تاریکی اتاق خواب کمک کند و هم نور اتاقها در برجها باعث سردرگمی پرندگان نشود. متاسفانه آلودگی نوری برجهای اداری و مسکونی در سراسر جهان مشکلات عدیدهای برای پرندگان بخصوص پرندگان مهاجر ایجاد میکنند.
مشکلات نور شهرها به آسمان نیز خلاصه نشده و حتی حیات لاکپشتها را تحت الشعاع قرار میدهد.
بچه لاکپشتها وقتی در ساحل سر از تخم بیرون میآورند باید راه دریا را در پیش بگیرند تا به زندگی ادامه دهند و زنده بمانند اما آنها گاهی روشنایی شهر را با افق روشنتر بالای اقیانوس اشتباه میگیرند و به سمت شهر حرکت میکنند. میلیونها بچه لاکپشت جوان تازه سر از تخم برآورده در اثر دنبال کردن مسیر اشتباه و خطرناک شهر که به خاطر آلودگی نوری در شب به وجود آمده است جان خود را از دست می دهند.
به علاوه پیدا کردن ساحلهای امن و تاریک برای لاک پشتها هرساله کار سختتری میشود و جمعیت گونههای مختلف دریایی را با تهدید مواجه کرده است.
